Jillian Calvert

Registered Psychotherapist

So many of us have internalized messages of worthlessness, helplessness, and fear-based living. Experiences of feeling rejected, diminished, abused, and/or uncared for in early years can lead to present-day self-attack and self-abandonment. You may feel as though you are uniquely unworthy, and must earn the love and acceptance of others through perfectionism, people-pleasing, or submission.

My goal is to offer you a calming, compassionate space where you can explore healing through relationships, welcome all parts of yourself, and tap into your innate strengths. I believe psychotherapy is a collaborative journey that entails identifying unhelpful patterns in order to reinforce new ones, processing past hurts, and determining how you can better live in accordance with your life philosophy and values. In my work, I strive to connect with each client’s unique story, and tailor my approach to their needs. I am passionate about helping clients unlearn that there is something ‘wrong’ with them, and access their natural capacity for self-compassion and self-alignment.

Starting therapy can be your first step on a journey towards finally accepting the wounded–but lovable–person you have always been, and moving forward in your life with a sense of connection with yourself and others.

More than just my work:

I am a lover of all things culinary, and in my spare time I like to challenge myself to cook or bake something new, or unwind by watching my favourite cooking competition shows. I’ve thrown out many cakes and cookies over the years! I am also a reader, and my recent genre of interest is science fiction.

Favourite quote: “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

-Rainer Maria Rilke
