Often telling your story can be challenging…
I’m Matthew, and I’m here to support you as you navigate the difficult moments that life inevitably brings. Stress, conflict, trauma, loss, and major life transitions can affect any of us, and when they begin to impact your daily functioning, relationships, or emotional well-being, therapy can be transformative. I offer a welcoming, client-centered, and collaborative approach where we always focus on your goals and what matters most to you.
Experience
I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work from King’s University College. For more than 15 years, I’ve worked as a therapist in a variety of settings, including SEARCH Community Mental Health Services, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and Wellkin Child & Youth Mental Wellness. Most recently, I provided counselling to youth, adults, and seniors within the Thames Valley Family Health Team.
These roles have given me extensive experience supporting individuals across the lifespan and navigating a wide range of emotional and relational challenges.
Client Focus
I work with youth (12+), adults, and seniors. I support clients facing trauma, stress, grief, adverse childhood experiences, parenting challenges, life transitions, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation concerns, and suicidal ideation.
Types of Therapy
My approach is grounded in Narrative Therapy and supported by DBT, CBT, Mindfulness, ACT, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Within my trauma-informed practice, I help clients gain insight into the roles their emotions, thoughts, motivations, and behaviours play in both the challenges they face and the solutions they seek.
I also teach practical skills you can carry forward long after therapy, supporting lifelong resilience and growth.
Issues I Support
I support clients working through trauma, adverse childhood experiences, grief, stress, parenting challenges, and major life transitions. My specialties include anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, suicidal ideation and OCD.
More than just my work
I love spending quality time with my family, including our golden retriever, connecting with friends, and exploring new places. A quote I return to often is:
“The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.” — William James
