Leah Marcoccia
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Hi, I’m Leah, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a personal understanding of the challenges mental health can present. Having navigated my own mental health journey, I’m deeply committed to helping you discover and strengthen your capacity to live a fulfilling life.
Professional Background: I earned a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Arts with a Specialization in Psychology from King’s University College. With over five years of experience in the mental health sector, I’ve collaborated with various organizations to enrich my practice. I specialize in working with teens and adults to address issues like depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, and challenges related to self-esteem and self-compassion.
Therapeutic Approach: My approach is grounded in the belief that you are the expert of your own life. I use an eclectic mix of therapies, focusing primarily on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In our sessions, we’ll create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can freely express yourself and explore new behaviors and skills.
Core Philosophy:
- Therapy Environment: I strive to provide a compassionate and motivational space that encourages open expression and personal growth.
- Therapy Relationship: Our work will be collaborative and supportive, aimed at boosting your self-efficacy.
- Therapy Goals: Together, we will seek new learning opportunities to practice and hone behaviors that contribute to a healthier, more balanced life.
Client Focus: I work with individuals, adolescents, teens, and young adults, providing trauma-informed care tailored to each person’s unique needs and experiences.
Specialties: My practice focuses on anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and fostering improved self-esteem through effective emotional regulation and distress tolerance techniques.
More Than Just Work:
- I cherish time spent with family and friends, which keeps me grounded and joyful.
- I’m an enthusiastic dog lover, spending joyful moments with my chihuahua and shi-poo-chi.
- As a lover of summer, I thrive in warm weather and enjoy all activities under the sun.
- Fitness is a key part of my life, embodying my belief in living a balanced life through moderation.
