Amy Haertel
Registered Social Worker Psychotherapist
Hello, I’m Amy, a Registered Social Worker Psychotherapist with a passion for supporting individuals as they navigate the profound effects of trauma on their lives. Trauma can cloud your identity and diminish your motivation, but together, we can work towards understanding and overcoming these challenges.
Professional Background: I earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor, along with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Family and Community Social Service. My education is further enriched by diplomas in Child and Youth Counseling and Social Service Work, as well as certifications in mediation and trauma counseling from Wilfrid Laurier University. My experience spans roles as a Child and Youth Worker in high schools, a community crisis coordinator, and a mediator at Community Justice Interventions.
Therapeutic Approach: My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, respect, and a deep admiration for the resilience of each individual. I employ a variety of therapeutic modalities including EMDR, somatic experiencing, CBT, self-compassion, and strength-based interventions, tailoring each session to meet your unique needs and goals.
Core Philosophy: I am committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where you can explore past experiences, process emotions, and develop skills to move forward positively. My goal is to empower you to overcome trauma and rediscover your inner strength.
Client Focus: I specialize in working with individuals aged 12 and up, particularly youth, and offer crisis intervention for individuals and families. My practice addresses a wide range of issues including trauma, grief/loss, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, and life transitions, among others.
More Than Just Work: Outside of the therapy room, I find solace and joy in nature. I am an avid river kayaker, enjoying the adventure and tranquility of exploring remote areas and observing wildlife. Kayaking for me is not just a hobby—it’s a way of connecting with nature and experiencing a unique blend of adventure, exercise, and natural beauty.
Let’s Connect: If you feel overwhelmed by trauma and are seeking a path to recovery, I’m here to support you on this journey. Book an appointment today, and let’s start working together towards healing and empowerment.
